Friday Mashup!! Sketchy for Dad

Hello Dear Stamping Friends! It's Friday, and that means it is time for another Friday Mashup challenge!  http://www.fridaymashup.com/  Today is my final project as a Design Team member...BooHoo!  This was my first ever DT gig, and I had a BLAST!  I am so grateful to Holly for giving me a chance to participate.  It has been a great year with so many fantastic challenges!  I have learned a lot, and have *met* so many fabulous stampers!  This week's challenge was a little tricky, just 'cuz I was packing for vacation, and my mojo was stalled out.  Yep...as this post goes live, I will be in Virginia and DC...WooHoo!  So here is the "Mashup" Challenge :

  • Make a project for " That special Man in your life ".
  • Or Make a project with the " Sketch ".
  • Or "Mash it Up" and create a " Masculine card using the above Sketch ".

Well, when I first made this card, I felt like it needed something more.  But after wandering around the forests and hills of Virginia this week, I think it is just fine!  My husband loves enjoying nature, and so I think he will enjoy this card.  I began with a search for designer paper...intending to use Woodland Walk (I think that's the name) but couldn't find it.  No worries...Lisa used it on her amazing card!  Having little time to spare before I finished packing, I came across an older retired fall package of DSP.  No clue what the name is, but that is where I got the color palette.  My card base is soft suede.  The lower squares (including the more mustard layer) are dsp.  For the top square, I stamped the leaves from Lovely as a Tree in always artichoke on whisper white.  Using my blender pen, I colored with retired mellow moss ink.  Then I embossed it with the square lattice impressions folder in my Big Shot, and sponged with both soft suede and always artichoke, then popped up with dimensionals.  I added the sentiment from (Trusty) Teeny Tiny Wishes with the usual word window and modern label punches.  A big designer button and baker's twine finish it off.
I hope you join us this week for this great challenge!  Masculine cards can be tricky, but we all need them sometime!  Be sure to use keyword FM60 in your online gallery.  See the other DT cards on the Friday Mashup blog!  http://www.fridaymashup.com/

While I am signing off as a DT member, I most certainly will visit the Friday Mashup again!  How could I not?  Long-time DT members, plus the new faces...These girls are FABULOUS!!  See you around the paper-crafting-blogosphere!!

Friday Mashup!! Ribbons and Trim

Hello and Happy Friday!!  It's time for another Friday Mashup challenge!!  Kasey is our Hostess this week, as she wraps up her time on the Fridy Mashup DT.  We're gonna miss her bunches!  Sending cyber {{{HUGS}}} to my Aussie friend!  Without further ado...here's a fun one (aren't they all??)  Check it out:

Here is the "Mashup" Challenge :
  1. Make a project " with a Decorative Edge! "
  2. Or Make a project with " Ribbon and or a Bow. "
  3. Or "Mash it Up" and create a project " with a Decorative Edge & Ribbon ".

All products in my card are from Stampin' Up.  Now, using ribbon comes so naturally to me, that it is more of a challenge to decide which ribbon to use!!  My color palette is from this week's ColourQ challenge, and so this whispy ribbon from Sale-a-Bration in lucky limeade fit the bill.  (Really wish I had gotten more!)  My card base is basic gray.  The left panel is whisper white, stamped with Fifth Avenue Floral in tempting turquoise, lucky limeade, and wisteria wonder.  The right panel is tempting turquoise, embossed with elegant bouquet impressions folder.  Both have a scallop trim border, allowing me to Mash things Up!  The large sentiment is from God's Blessings, and the other is from none other than Teeny Tiny Wishes, punched out with the word window punch.  The sketch is from splitcoaststampers...a challenge I have neglected a lot lately!

I truly enjoyed making this card...and I think it is good to have a Get Well card on hand.

NEXT week is my last week on the Friday Mashup DT...BooHoo!  Lots of other things on my plate (work stuff).  But I will stop by from time to time.  Guess I better create a "wow" card for next week!

Hello and Happy Friday everyone!  What a week I have had!  Eeeash!  So grateful for the weekend!  Among other reasons, the weekend means it is time for a fabulous Friday Mashup Challenge!  Lisa is our hostess with the mostest this week, and she has a more serious, but important theme for us.  Check it out:

  2. Or Make a project with the colors " Whisper White, Night of Navy, Poppy Parade & Daffodil Delight."
  3. Or "Mash it Up" and create a "Remembrance or Patriotic project using the colors above."
  4. Donate your card to a Wounded Solider or that Special Service Member in your Life!

                                                             **************************************
My husband served in the Navy for 7 years before I met him.  His father and one of his brothers were also in the Navy.  We have a nephew-in-law who serves proudly in the US Marines.  I am so grateful for the service of these men...and so many other men and women.  In fact, I moved to this current location for a music therapy internship at the local VA hospital.  I have heard many remarkable stories...and I cannot sing "God Bless America" without crying.  So, it felt very good to create this card.  (The pic isn't great, but I hope you can see some details.)

I started with a night of navy card base, layered with more navy that is embossed with the stripes impressions folder.  I did that for dimension, but also so I could wrap poppy parade ribbon (retiring when supplies are gone!) without it showing inside.  My main image is from Stampin' Up's "Courage" which I FINALLY purchased.  It retires at the end of this month.  I simple stamped it with navy ink on whisper white card stock, and layered it over poppy parade dsp.  The sentiment is from "Service and Sacrifice" which also retires May 31.  The layered stars are from a Sizzix die which is also retiring.  Notice the theme?  I went crazy with an order on April 30!  You can't tell in the pic, but I embossed the stars with the stripes too.  Lots of dimensionals make this a thick card, but no buttons or bows, so it's not "too much."

I realize with these new supplies, I really should create a stack of cards for our local VA.  If you don't have a VA hospital nearby, please consider sending your card to Holly for patients at the Walter Reed hospital (address above.)  With Memorial Day and the often forgotten Flag Day approaching us here in the US, it's a great time to show our appreciation to these brave men and women.

Be sure to check out the other Design Team projects and join us this week!  Use keyword FM58 in your online gallery.

Friday Mashup!! Mashin' Up with PLG!!

Hello, and Happy Friday everyone!!  At the Friday Mashup, we have a special treat for you this week!!  Not only do you get the option of Mashing up 2 fun challenges with us, but we are joining the Paper Lovin' Gals this week also!  WooHoo!
So here's your challenge:
  1. Make a Mother's Day project for Mom, Aunt, Grandma, etc
  2. Or Make a project with a Pop-Up element
  3. Or Mash it Up and make a project for Mom with a Pop-Up element
  4. Or join in BOTH challenges and make a project for Mom with a Pop-Up element, using the inspiration photo above!!  Whew!!
Now, I have to admit that I was intimidated by the pop-up element.  So much so, that I kept putting this off.  So tonight, I told my dear hubby about the challenge(s).  He, being a silly, goofy guy who likes puns, advised me to use a play on words.  Well...I have this popsicle from the just-retired Occassions Mini catalog.  Other than that, it's just plain weird!   LOL!  My colors are based on the inspiration photo.  I have a crumb cake base with a layer of cherry cobbler.  My layer of whisper white is stamped with an old stamp from "So Very" set, using pretty in pink and cherry cobbler ink.  I also used the adorning accents impressions folder, then lightly sponged the hearts with pretty in pink ink.  The popsicle is from "Mouthwatering" colored with my regal rose and crumb cake markers.  You can't tell in this dark picture, but the rose part is embossed and smells like watermelon!  I cut it out and popped it up with dimensionals.  My "Up" is simply crumb cake and rose red card stock shaped in an arrow, also embossed with hearts and popped up.  The other sentiment is from a retired SAB set "Best Yet", punched out and layered over a heart.  Finally, seam binding in rose red and crumb cake finish it off.

This might be the strangest card I have ever made.  But Bruce likes it.  Maybe he'll give it to his mom!  ;-)

Be sure to checkout the other inspiring REAL pop-up cards at the Friday Mashup blog, and join the Paper Lovin' Gals too!!  Can't wait to see what you create!
